CLINICAL SUPERVISOR & THERAPIST, OWNER, AND CONSULTANT IN TEXAS

IT’S TIME TO INVEST IN YOURSELF.

TARAN MCGOWEN, LPC-S

Growth, guidance, and well-being are taking center stage.

When we consider wellness, it's often fragmented, addressing only certain aspects of our physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual health, while neglecting others. Yet, to truly thrive, we must embrace a holistic approach to our well-being. It's my privilege to accompany you on this journey toward nurturing your entire self. Together, let's navigate a path illuminated by guidance, cultivate your potential through intentional growth, and place your well-being at the forefront of your life's narrative.

How I work

At the core of my approach is to cultivate a nurturing space where insight flourishes, confidence grows, and wellness endures.

One of the essential aspects of my role as a therapist, supervisor, and educator is to create an environment where you feel both comfortable and secure. At the heart of my practice lies a healthy and therapeutic relationship. You can count on me to embody warmth, intentionality, challenge, authenticity, honesty, and insight.

I strongly believe in the importance of balancing light-heartedness and humor with opportunities for growth and introspection. My objective is to meet you exactly where you are on your journey and accompany you toward the future you envision.

Together, we will engage in collaborative efforts aimed at deepening your understanding of yourself and others, ultimately guiding you toward a life of genuine fulfillment.

It is my profound honor to offer you unwavering support, consistency, warmth, and guidance as we navigate the highs and lows that life presents.

MY BELIEF’S AS A THERAPIST:

There is no “one size fits all approach.”

Therapy should be tailored to the individual needs of each client.

Therapy should be a place where you can be your most authentic self.

The therapeutic environment should invite clients to be themselves, free from fear of being judged. Transparency, authenticity and genuineness are important and should be modeled by the therapist as well.

Therapy should offer insight and challenge us.

Therapy can be a place of “venting” but it should also inspire us to have fresh perspectives and challenge distorted mindsets.

my guiding principles

RELATIONSHIP

A healthy, therapeutic relationship is at the forefront of everything. In order, to establish and meet goals, there has to be trust between the client and therapist. This is only developed through genuine relationship.

COMPASSION

Compassion and empathy are vital to the therapeutic relationship. There is a genuine desire to understand the experiences of clients without judgment or criticism.

CONFIDENTIAL

The clients confidentially and anonymity is of utmost importance. It helps the client and therapist develop trust and respect. Protecting client information is a top priority and is not taken lightly. Client’s deserve to feel safe.

HONESTY

Honesty is a critical component of ethical and effective therapy. It allows for open and healthy communication and gives permission for insights to be shared from a place of compassion and genuineness.

About Taran

Taran McGowen is a native to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She graduated from Dallas Baptist University in 2012 with a degree in Music Business and in 2015 with a Masters degree in Counseling. Taran had the opportunity to work with national artists and athletes, develop and negotiate contract riders, and plan, coordinate and aid in show production. She garnered skills in marketing, advertising, and communications, but also learned how to develop relationships, work with, manage and motivate others. Along with her studies, she was a collegiate cheerleader. It was on the court where she met the love of her life, Jordan McGowen who was a collegiate basketball player. Through her own experiences as both a collegiate athlete and a performer in the entertainment industry, Taran grew a deep compassion and empathy for those who constantly undergo the stress of perfectionism, unrealistic expectations, and the isolation that comes from success. Her personal experiences and relationships to those like her, inspired her to cultivate a space for not just athletes and entertainers, but for high achievers who seek solace, safety, acceptance, and a space to be themselves. Through this, she created a business that allows just that.

Currently, Taran is the owner of Thrive House Wellness, a health and wellness practice located in Irving, TX. Thrive House offers mental health counseling, nutrition counseling, and supervision for counseling practicum students and interns. Through the pandemic, Thrive House continued to grow, and serve as a resource to individuals, couples, families, businesses- large and small, schools, and other community organizations. As the Thrive House brand continues to grow, Taran commits to creating and maintaining a culture where clients and clinicians alike, feel safe, cared for and valued, and feel they have the tools to live a life that is fulfilling- ultimately, leading them to Thrive.

Taran is the wife of Jordan McGowen and the mom to Rhian and Jordan Mills. She is currently completing her doctorate degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from The University of North Texas in Denton, TX. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family, going to games, dates with her husband and traveling!
